Darren Chiacchia Case: Official Marion Co. Sheriff's Full Police Report
CASE STATUS: PENDING ACTIVE.
>>Retreadeventer: Yes, this is hitting the mainstream media as we speak. USA Today just tossed up a few sentences with stuff everyone here and on the forums knew yesterday. Either late tonight or early tomorrow we will have a post with links to other coverage of the story. As for how does this reflect on eventing, I will let smarter people than myself deal with that one.
And you know the mainstream media is not going to angle it about head injuries and how it affects your behavior. They are going to just slam equestrians across the board. We are all self-entitled psychos.
Just remember that he knew he was HIV positive before the accident at Red Hills. Did he have his HIV status on his medical armband?...I doubt that.Any volunteer who rushed to his aid that day who might have come in contact with his blood, saliva etc. was exposed. Are fence judges going to be warned about dealing with potential infected riders at the briefing and be given plastic gloves to wear?
So sad for Darren :(
So sad for poor judgement on the part of all parties involved. But I would not generalize this to be the perception of all eventers.
I am a former student of Darren's and am sad to hear all of this, however, his dishonesty is not at all surprising.
Not at all surprising. Darren has always seen himself as untouchable and above everyone else. I feel bad for the victim. I don't think this is a reflection of a rider or a gay man, rather a individual who has never had any regard for anyone else but himself. I'm glad he got caught and will suffer the consequences.
This sounds quite normal for Darren. As a former customer I found Darren to be very dishonest. He charged me for services he nor his staff had done just to pad his bill. Then made promises he had no intention of fulfilling. It appears that his personal life mirrors his professional life.
I have know him for years. I agree with the posts I read from this site as well as other sites. He is dishonest, obnoxious, rude and thought he was better and above everyone else. I have seen many people in the horse show world whether they were riders or the ones who put on the Event, all kiss up to him and many times he got special treatment especially when he through his well known temper tandrum. He is now being punished and it has caught up with him.
Lots of great information and inspiration, both of which we all need, thank you for this.
Wow I know Darrens brother Dan we went to school together I never knew them to ever be that way, they were always so nice. Never acted spoiled, I guess fame really changes some people. And I'm sorry but whether he told him he had HIV or not they still (BOTH parties involved) should have had "Protected SEX" they are both grown and both knew better, they both said yes.Hello!!!!!! HERES YOUR SIGN!!! and I hate to say it. but Darren is right if that dude seriously thinks that all his little lovers told him the truth about not having HIV he has got to be kidding... nowadays is a crazy place to live. People just don't CARE about other people any more this is a sad world we live in..
Most people voted for Obama for the key reason why which he was ebony and men and women nowadays help him for your.

Dismaying situation. Innocent until proven guilty of course but just such bad decision making by someone with just - past TBI. How does this reflect on eventing? Has it hit the mainstream media yet? Does anyone think it will?
