Video Saturday: 1st-Person Eventing with Helmet Cam

Three Eventers set out on course with cameras strapped to their helmets.  From this angle, you find yourself riding the course with the competitors and their horses: checking the watch, counting strides, catching a tree branch with your face. Somehow I'm not sure Helmet Cam: Dressage would be as appealing.

Cross-Country Cam:
Competitors must not only navigate the numbered fences on this course, but also hundreds of trees.

Because a Boot Cam Would Pull Rails: The funky music and perfect weather make this ride feel like a video game. Spacebar to jump?

You Fell On My Camera: This combination takes a misstep up a bank. Both horse and rider are up quickly, and no one appears to be hurt. But correct me if I'm wrong, around 1:50, did they gallop right in front of the start box??

that first one with them galloping through sand spread over road. eek!!! that kind of threw me off a tad. and the last couple of branches look like they might have hurt. very interesting! thanks

What that thing on the horses head? Cool find tho. I am still waiting for Eventers Rule, it's a classic....you gotta see it!

These are terrific, but I have to mention that they are all at different events. The first one (the grey horse, Pluto Mio) is at Adelaide, at the Australian International 3DE. The third is at Lakes & Craters, in Victoria with Shane Rose piloting. I reckon bring on twin helmet cams and 3D glasses...it's do-able!

Peter Atkins is riding with a helmet cam on his horses and will be posting all his rides online soon, we talked briefly this weekend where he won an OI section at Rocking Horse (duly recorded!), he hopes to launch his website shortly, ridewithmetorolex, which will show all his xc rides, plus course walks and more once he's there, v entrepreneurial, and raise funds to compete in KY this spring. We will be inviting him to talk about it on the Horse Radio Network and will let Eventing Nation know when this happens. PS Still loving the website

Thank you Samantha! We look forward to seeing the latest Helmet Cam videos and hearing about the interview!

What kind of helmet cams are you guys using??

I like the way you present the post. Very clear and useful for a newbie like me. Absolutely great post with valuable tips. I enjoyed reading your blogs. Thanks for sharing such points. I am impressed!! ;)

We have just come across this site by mistake, but I'm really happy I did. It helped a dull train trip go very quickly. A good beginning to an otherwise boring Wednesday morning. Thanks "
