Need to Know Wednesday: Good News for Jan and Rebecca

Hey Andrea, that's the funniest one of them all! I've heard about feeding non-sweaters beer, and I suppose alcohol lowers pain thresholds, but wow. Great find and thanks for posting it.
Rebecca Lee lives just around me, and I actually have a clinic with her coming up. Nonetheless, this shocked me and freaked me out when I saw this. Thank you, EN, for telling me about this. I'll make sure to send her my regards and along with the rest of my barn, and my barn owner who is close with her.
I know that Rebecca and Jan were more than ready to be eventing at the level they are at but it does make me question - you had said you saw a lot of issues at the Prelim and Int levels.
Are people moving up to soon? Are they pushing themselves and their horses past their abilities?
People will be wanting to point fingers at shadows and jump building but if you are trained at that level you should be able to handle these things - shouldnt you???
Jan's horse, Walstred, is a big, young warmblood that Jan has for sale. He didn't look really solid at the few events he did in the couple of weeks before Pine Top. Did she push him because he is for sale and will fetch a better price? I've been watching a lot of these fancy event horses who look to be capable in the dressage and show jumping phases, but need a very strong pro ride crosscountry to the point of spectators are gasping in fear of a fall. Last year there were several Pros who called the Pinetop the "Training Olympics". There were a number of falls at Training.
I agree about Jan's horse looking like it required a pro ride. They weren't scary or anything at the jump I was judging but you could tell he was NOT an ammy ride.
I did think that Will Faudree, Will Coleman, Carol Kozlowski, and Matthew Flynn all rode multiple horses who looked prepared for the level(s). (note: I was only able to see a handful or jumps...So I don't know if they were good elsewhere on the course.)

Drunk horse baffles police by crashing cart in Romania
Amy Mathieson, H&H news writer
15 October, 2008
A drunk horse in Romania has been arrested for being over the limit.
Police officers were alerted to the horse when the cart it was pulling looked out of control and hit a man sitting on a nearby bench.
Police tested a sample of the horse's blood and were left scratching their heads when it came back positive for alcohol. Vets said it was the first time they had been asked to test a horse.
The owner was bringing the horse home from a fair where he had bought the animal.
According to local paper reports, police believe the horse was given alcohol to make it appear stronger and healthier to fetch a better price at the fair.
