How did your event go this weekend?
I too was at King Oak, and so thankful to be competing only on Sunday (P and N ran Sunday), after the predicted rainstorms were supposed to have ended. That didn't mean that I missed all the fun weather though. I did manage to haul in after the heavy rain ended on Saturday, but while out walking my course Satruday evening, I encountered rain, sunshine, thunder, hail and even a double rainbow just in a 45 minute period! The next morning the winds picked up and howled through the show grounds. Needless to say, the wind and 30 degree drop fom the day before temps made for some interesting dressage rides, and the stadium jumps and dressage letters all fell down over night! However, the event was great, the footing dried out from the day before and I think everyone had a blast in the end!
Saturday is always our slowest day in terms of visitors on Eventing Nation, and I always wondered why until I realized that many of our readers are busy at events on Saturdays! After all, the only excuse for not checking EN is that you are busy riding cross-country.
Oh, and 2 comments so far?!? COMEON EVENTING NATION! Just tell a quick random story from the event, talk about the weather, tell us how you got jobbed by the dressage judge. Whatever, just write something.
This eventer spent her weekend at a hunter show and proved that we can look pretty too. Go cross training....in freezing cold miserably windy weather!
The Maryland Horse Trials held an unrecognized starter HT on Saturday and I scored the majority of the event… our usual scorer wanted to actually rider her horse LOL. It was my first time scoring an event, so sorry for the wait on BN scores! From what I saw and heard, SJ was the toughest phase and it was an extremely windy day. Other than that, it ran smoothly and everybody had a great day. Except for when the power went out (thank goodness for laptop batteries!) and the 20 min for the generator to start working. Thank you so much to everybody that came out to ride and support this event!
This eventer spent yesterday helping her friend at a mini-trial and then prepping for Greater Dayton which is next weekend. So, ask this question again in a week, and I can guarantee an entertaining account of it all!
I spent the whole weekend painting/staining XC jumps.
the weather was amazing and the jumps look great.
far from done though.
sigh.
I was also at King Oak this weekend. Being our first event this year I rode BN and was lucky enough to be there Saturday morning in the pouring rain. They held everything for 45 mins right before I was going in to do my test which kind of annoyed me but i was glad to get out of the rain. If anyone saw a dark bay thoroughbred decked out in bright blue come flying through the finish flags about 700 mpm, that was me! My trusty 25 year old horse thought it would be a good idea to grab the bit and run as soon as we turned for home...
This eventer spent Saturday at Central Ontario's Pony Club Quiz!!!! yay for watching the rain and not being in it. however that meant that i got to go riding when it was snowing ... indoor arenas shrink in May i swear
This eventer spent King Oak Saturday humping through the mud on her crutches, watching daughter and coach have excellent rides. Both horses did EXTREMELY well in spite of the most ghastly weather and footing bad enough to consider scratching. Glad we didn't, the fellas came home wiser and more confident for having lived through it. Sort of like CCI* Radnor '95. ;)
Poor old Em was given a stop at the first which she absolutely DID NOT have. Good old Jim the TD tried with all his wisdom to get it erased but the JJ's held firm. That instantaneous prop-and-go 5 strides in front of the jump, long before presentation, was a stop to their eyes. Oh how I long for penalty zones.
My little red horse was quite brilliant in spite of his strong touristy tendencies. Babs did a super job and they finished 8th at his 2nd Training. Oh to be able to ride again...
I was at an event this weekend on a green eventing horse. We were only going BN, so it was nothing major, but during Show Jumping the fence blew over right in front of my horse. We were about 2 strides out when the wind picked up & the jump toppled. Luckily the standards didn't roll far so we just "jumped" more or less a cavaletti on the ground. I figured it was better to go for it then to stop & have my green bean pick up a nasty stopping habit.
OK random question....has nothing to do with show results...but shows.... does anyone have any guidance of what awards to sign up for...yes i know its late but I think I signed up for not the right ones...hahaha and does anyone know about area II awards?
I got to check out frangible pins up close and personal at the Sydney International Weekend of World Cups. Wow, they are not actually pins! They are funny looking plates mad of red metal. I took some photos, but somehow my phone has lost every image on it (there were many more than frangible pins...). The riders were not very happy, because they seemed to go off with the lightest tap, but no-one got 25 penalties.
We were at Winona and the weather was yucky on Saturday. Rain held off until the afternoon but it was very windy and cold. Perfect conditions for my greenie's first starter test! I was very proud of how he handled dressage warm up and the dressage test with no drama, scoring a 38 on BNA test. SJ was in a different area and apparently the warm up was terrifying! I could not get him near the area where the x rail warm up jump was without spinning, backing and little rears. I bailed off twice in warm up rather than back into a creek or pond, once hitting my elbow on the stirrup hard enough to cause a huge bruise and numb hand! :). But I got back on and we eased our way around the stadium course. Luckily there was no time limit! XC started at a walk but he jumped every jump great though he has never XC schooled. He ended up second in his division! I was so proud! Even though his name is High Expectations we really had NO expectations for this weekend!
My prelim horse had a good dressage test with really nice trot work and I was very happy with it. I did my typical default and rode our stadium course somewhat backwards, resulting in two rails and time penalties. Luckily the rain stopped Sunday morning for XC, and the footing held up. I am pretty sure the temps were still in the 30s when I ran though! My horse showed me again what a rockstar he is, clocking around all the difficult combos and fences like they were nothing! Now if only his mommy (me) would let him run so we can make time!
Already can't wait for our next time out!! Go eventing!
Thanks for all the great responses so far everyone! I'm thinking about making this a weekly thing because it would be awesome if we could get people sharing stories from lots of different events.
I went to Badminton and despite being very very cold it was well worth the money! Paul Tapner rode beautifully and it is always amazing to watch Mary King go around. I felt the coarse was demanding and appropriate and based on the results seemed a bit more difficult then rolex was. I was so sad when it ended! It was so inspiring to see all the Young Riders that went around. My favorite being Camilla Spears from IRL She made the coarse look like a piece of cake. It was too bad that Phillip and Jolie didn't make it over to ride there as both had planned. It would have been fun to cheer on USA! Now back to reality and packing for Galway this weekend.

I jump judged at King Oak on Saturday, and had a blast. Horrible thunderstorms and pouring rain all morning, but everything cleared up for the afternoon. Despite being soaked to the skin all day, I would do it again in a heartbeat! The King Oak organizers were incredibly gracious and ran a good tight ship. Alas, the two riders and horses I hauled both had dressage meltdowns. No ribbons, but big smiles after XC anyway!
