WEG Tickets - Get Yours!

Yesterday I received a WEG e-newsletter stating tickets to all eight disciplines are going fast, and some sessions, particularly final rounds, are approaching sell-out.

The Dressage Individual Freestyle and the Reining Individual Finals could be the first to reach full capacity.  Less than 1,000 Level A tickets are available for the Dressage Freestyle on October 1 in the outdoor stadium.  Only 400 tickets remain for the Reining Individual Finals on September 30 at the indoor arena.

Finals rounds are in highest demand across all sports.  Eventing and Driving finals are already 75 percent sold, and only a third of the seats for the Jumping Top Four remain.   Just over 100 tickets remain in the Finals Round for Para Dressage, and both the Freestyle and Team Finals in Vaulting are more than halfway sold.

Don't wait too long to choose your strategy.  If you can't swing a ticket to the finals or early rounds but you would still like to do some shopping and explore the historical venue, Grounds Passes  are on sale at the promotional price of $20 until May 31.

At first I was uncertain about attending the WEG, but after much pondering and budgeting I found a way to justify it to myself: this is the first time in 20 years the WEG have left Europe, and they just so happen to have settled in the US.  Who knows the next time so many of us will have this awesome opportunity to watch the top horses and riders in 8 disciplines from around the world competing for the World Champion title.

Plus, I didn't want to miss out and then have to hear all my friends talk about what a great time they had.  So I may be eating Ramen noodles and junior bacon cheeseburgers for a while, but it's going to be totally worth it.

See you at the Games!

I have my tickets and am SO excited to watch the Worlds best when they descend on the Kentucky Horse Park.

I just bought mine last week! I'm going to all the eventing but the first day and the Grand Prix freestyle at night!!! Fortunately I live nearby so I don't have to worry about price gouging from hotels, but the traffic is going to be crazy.

I've had mine for a little while....all eventing and the GP freestyle. The hotel costs were killer...and I got parking. Should be a fun time! Any recommendations for must see places (or places to eat) while there?

I was thinking of going as a volunteer--but just now, reading your post, I decided differently, and bought tickets for myself and my 12-year-old daughter. So she misses a day of school. We'll have a blast, and it's not an opportunity we're likely to get again.

I got the tickets from the hubby as a b-day present and the hotel from ma.
The hotel is EXPENSIVE!

Melissa -
If you want atmosphere and a good drink, go to Irish pub McCarthy's. If you're on a budget, go to a favorite hang-out place of all the students at UK, called Tally-Ho. If you want to do something special and spend a bit of cash, try A La Lucie near Transylvania college. Then there is De Sha's which is across from Triangle Park and Rupp Arena. It's a great place, good food and affordable. There is also the good ol' Cracker Barrel on the way to the park. Lexington will have a lot to offer to everyone.

Thanks ZebFry! Notes copied and put with my tickets. Can't wait to check things out!

Do you guys have your tickets physically in your hands? I am 99% sure I bought the tix, ages ago, but I am so old now I can't really remember.......;) If the tix have been sent out, I fear I may be in trouble...

Polly, don't do the "I am so old" bit, even in jest. You gotta feel young! No, I have not received my tickets. At Rolex, the director of XC judges said that everyone doing Rolex is also doing WEG. They just needed to get Rolex finished before they could really focus on WEG. Oh, yes, the WEG has a separate building and people working on things that are not involved with Rolex...like all the other disciplines and community activities. I think your tickets will arrive in time! Have a great time at the WEG!

Melissa, if you are not familiar with horse racing, I would suggest going to Keenland, which is in Lexington, across from the airport. Walk over to the barns, not just the race track. Also, if you can spare an afternoon, or even late afternoon/early evening, after your visit to Keenland you can continue out Versailles Rd toward Frankfort, KY and also drive out Paris PKY, those two drives will give you an idea of the hugh and numerous thoroughbred horse farms which are also tucked in among tinny roads throughout the area of Lexington, KY. This is even better, try a Horse Farm Tour, there are several suggestions on this web site, have a blast: http://www.visitlex.com/idea/horse-farms.php

Lynagh's Irish Pub is the best place for food and good beer. (ask for the ribeye sandwich!) Magee's Bakery is the place to go for coffee and breakfast. Good Fella's pizza - is a hole in the wall walk up place, but fabulous NY pizza. McCarthy's Irish Bar downtown is great for beers. Cheapside is a good bar/restaurant if you like crowds. All of these have been found in 5 years of exploring when there for Rolex!

will it ever be televised?

I like Shuffleboard - it is the perfect and dynamic game that everone need to attempt. My friends love it! Family rec games are the best!

Thanks for taking the time to chat about this, I feel strongly about this and I take pleasure in learning about this subject. If possible, as you gain facts, please add to this blog with more information. I have found it very useful. watch luther online

Lol, what else can be said.

I know it sounds crazy but this reminded me of Abraham Lincoln's: "Everybody likes a compliment."
